Sustainable Food Systems |A Mediterranean Perspective 2020 is a 5 week Interactive Open Online Course giving participants the chance to learn about the challenges and opportunities of the agricultural sector in the Mediterranean. It is guided by leading experts through a self-paced course. In addition, participants will engage in intercultural dialogue during live online group sessions where they get the chance to share their ideas, experiences and reflections with others with different cultural backgrounds.

Topics that will be discussed in this course concern, for example; history and culture of agriculture in the Mediterranean; global-to-local challenges related to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals; EU policy frameworks and international agreements related to food and agriculture in the Mediterranean; and opportunities related to innovation and sustainability.
After successful completion of this course, participants are awarded an Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange Badge.
Participants
This Interactive Open Online course is open and free of charge for any young person aged 18-30 residing in any of the Erasmus+ programme countries or Southern Mediterranean countries.
The application deadline for prospective participants is 18 May 2020.

The facilitated online meetings are organized around relevant skill-building activities and discussing dynamic content provided by expert academics and practitioners.

Interactive Open Online Courses provide youth with the opportunity to learn both with and from their peers across cultural contexts and national boundaries in facilitated online meetings alongside relevant skill-building activities and dynamic content provided by expert academics and practitioners. These courses combine the deep impact of intercultural exchange with the broad reach of online learning to allow more young people to have meaningful intercultural learning experiences as part of their formal or non-formal education. Interactive Open Online Courses are part of Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange. This project provides an accessible, ground-breaking way for young people to engage in intercultural learning.
An innovative learning experience
Participants in the interactive courses are provided with the opportunity to:
- Engage with youth from different countries, cultures and backgrounds in a virtual classroom;
- Discuss topical themes on technological innovations, social identity and culture;
- Learn from expert content and materials;
- Improve language and communication skills;
- Build 21st-century skills that improve employability, including the ability to work in a virtual and intercultural environment;
- Gain an Erasmus+ digital badge and become an Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange alumni.

Preparation assignment
The 10 content modules hosted on the edX platform are designed to provide participants with food for thought and discussion for their weekly seminars. All participants are expected to have watched and reflected on the video presentations from the module content prior to their seminars so that they can share their ideas and perspectives with each other. Each week, you will be expected to confirm that you have reviewed these modules and completed the quiz by submitting a seminar preparation assignment, due before your live meeting.
