Together Against Online Hate

Together Against Online Hate Speech (TAOHS) is an international project led by a consortium of organisations (Sharing Perspectives Foundation, ichbinhier, FundiPau, Build Up and the University of Amsterdam) across Germany, the Netherlands and Spain to understand, counter and process hate speech. TAOHS aims to increase the resilience of civil society organisations, media outlets and authorities to understand and tackle online hate speech on their platforms and contribute to a safer and plural online space.

Partners receive

Analysis

 

You will receive a personalized analysis of online hate on their social media. The analysis contains insights, frequency, type, and patterns of online hate, who is targeted and how, as well as platform-specific trends and risks. 

 

The analysis will be conducted using Phoenix platform, an open-source social media analysis tool, and you receive two main products:
  • Baseline assessment: An analysis report  for your organization/company outlining hate-speech trends, targets,  and recommendations on how to intervene.
  • Data dashboard: A dedicated dashboard providing real-time insights into online hate affecting your organisation, which can be edited and updated at any time using Phoenix.

Tailored training

 

You will receive training on analysis tools, methodologies, and approaches for developing interventions. The training is  adapted to each organisation’s real challenges, based on the hate patterns identified in the analysis phase. Training topics can include:
  • Responding effectively to online hate
  • Digital civil courage techniques
  • Moderation strategies
  • Supporting individuals targeted by hate
  • Building individual and organisational resilience

Ongoing mentoring

 

You will receive ongoing support to apply what they have learned in practice. The mentors will support your team through
  • Case consultations
  • Strategy reflection
  • Follow-up meetings
  • Guidance on wellbeing and self-care

International learning community

 

You will join an international learning community of civil society organisations and media outlets across Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain. The community provides space to exchange experiences, share approaches, and reflect on how similar challenges are addressed in different national and organisational contexts.

Eligibility criteria

  • You are a Civil Society Organization or a Media Company working on social media / with social media presence.
  • You are working in the Netherlands, Spain or Germany. 
  • You are willing to address hate speech online and apply the tools and methods developed in the programme.
  • You have the organisational capacity to dedicate the required level of effort and to nominate at least one dedicated contact person for coordination within the project.
  • You are directly affected by or regularly exposed to online hate, targeting their organisation, staff, contributors or communities
  • You are willing to adhere to democratic values, including respect for human dignity, equality and non-discrimination
